Mobile Usage Continues to Rise

The latest research from eMarketer shows that mobile usage has significantly increased in the past year. More and more people are using their mobile phones for everything from social networking to online shopping. According to the latest research, US mobile penetration is estimated to be 80% this year. With this increase in mobile adoption, online retail has been one of the fastest growing mobile segments. eMarketer indicates a 91% change from 2009 to 2010 in online retail for mobile. In addition, the number of unique users has almost doubled in the last year.

As research indicates, consumers are continuing to make purchases using their mobile phones:

According to ABI research, consumers globally are expected to
spend $119 billion by 2015 through their mobile phones, accounting for about 8% of all e-commerce activity.

Statistics indicate that there is significant consumer interest in mobile online shopping. Consumers are expecting their favorite retailers to already have some sort of mobile presence, whether this is a simple app or mobile store.
