Groupon Goes National With Gap

I admit I’m turning into a little bit of a Groupon groupie. Each morning I eagerly check my inbox to find out the daily deal in my area. Groupon is a group-buying site that is reportedly valued now at $1 billion. The concept is simple, if a minimum number of people sign up for the daily deal then they will receive the discount. Typically the deals are locally-based offers from small to medium size businesses.  And hey, who doesn’t like a great deal on a mani-pedi at the local spa? But today’s offer was far from a local deal, but a unique offer from Gap - $25 for $50 worth of merchandise at stores across the U.S. and Canada. This Groupon deal was emailed out to subscribers in all cities. I received the offer at 8:01am and by 8:44am I had received a notice saying today’s offer was a success.

In fact today’s offer was so much of a success that I received this error message when I visited the site a little later.

With large retailers like Gap experimenting with social or group buying, I will be even more eagerly awaiting my daily Groupon email. And yes, I successfully got my Groupon today :)

Funny thing Wanda. I took advantage of this Groupon too and the site promptly crashed after I purchased it. So it's taken until just a few minutes ago to verify that it went through. Guess Groupon was unprepared for such a huge response to today's promotion. Something they should think about in future. ;)
