Microsoft introduced two new phones yesterday - Kin 1 and Kin 2 - designed primarily for the under 25 set. The phones focus on the most important aspects of their target market - text messaging, social sharing, and rich media. Notably at the bottom of the list is voice. Wired.com refers to the new devices as somewhere between a feature phone and a smart phone. These communication devices push content into the cloud to a designated area called the "Kin Spot" for easy sharing. The phones also have the Zune HD player for media playback.

The new devices will launch exclusively on Verizon Wireless next month in the United States and on Vodafone in Europe later this year. There’s no word yet on pricing.
The inherent social nature of these new phones could have potential for commerce as well. Most would agree that m-commerce as it exists today does not allow for easy and robust sharing of wishlists or purchases made. Perhaps these new devices could help extend social commerce to the mobile.
Initial feedback has been quite positive, incuding a blog posting by Forrester analyst Charles Golvin describing the Kin1 and Kin 2 as "Microsoft's Best Step In The Consumer Mobile Market To Date"
