Goods, Manufacturing and Healthcare industries to collaborate electronically with business partners, taking full advantage of their existing and future Microsoft technology investments.
History
Cactus Commerce Inc. is a privately held company, incorporated in 1995. The company’s experience in B2B
e-commerce and enterprise application integration (EAI) dates to 1997, when Cactus Commerce developed,
in collaboration with the Bank of Montreal, a first-generation electronic marketplace system. In the spring of
2000, Cactus began the development of the Cactus Settlement Server, a B2B payment solution designed
entirely for XML, which completed electronic transactions by supporting online financial settlement.
In August 2000, Cactus started work with one of Microsoft’s server product groups in Redmond, Washington
through which Cactus was involved in the development of Microsoft’s B2B strategy, using products such as
BizTalk Server and Commerce Server. These solutions enabled suppliers to offer their products, services
and catalogues online using XML standards. In 2004, Cactus delivered Nautilus, a full-service online
catering and conference management system to Compass Group’s Eurest Division. Also in 2004, Microsoft
engaged Cactus in an exclusive agreement to deliver Cactus GDS Accelerator for BizTalk in order to
provide 1SYNC (formerly UCCnet™ and Transora) connectivity to retail, consumer goods, manufacturing
and distributor customers running on the Microsoft platform.
Today, Cactus is actively working with enterprise Retailers and Consumer Packaged Goods Manufacturers
to facilitate the flow of goods from the point of fabrication to the point of consumption. Cactus’ Multi
Channel Retail (MCR), Enterprise Collaboration & Integration (ECI), PIM, GDS, and RFID solutions are
built on top of Microsoft’s Commerce Server and BizTalk platform and combine both Intellectual Property
and unique industry expertise to enable companies to get the most out of their investment in Microsoft.
Market Overview
In today's global economy, companies are faced with the need to effectively integrate applications, systems,
and technologies from a variety of sources. Redundancy, erroneous data and slow response to changes in
the marketplace are costing companies billions of dollars annually. According to AT Kearney, a global
management consulting firm, $40 billion, or 3.5% of sales, are lost each year due to supply-chain
information inefficiencies.
Supply Chain Management (SCM) encompasses the automated exchange of information between different
organizations such as partners, customers, suppliers and distributors. TPI enables the creation of truly
collaborative business relationships that facilitate real-time decision-making, accelerated cycle times and
better monitoring of business performance across the value chain.
As organizations are moving away from complex electronic data interchange (EDI) infrastructures, which
use expensive, proprietary networks for integrating with trading partners, Internet-based technologies are
becoming the Enterprise Collaboration & Integration (ECI) solutions of choice through their ability to deliver
all the advantages of EDI at a fraction of the cost.
Technology Overview
Cactus Commerce has developed its reputation by building robust Supply Chain, Enterprise Integration and
eCommerce solutions. Through this experience, Cactus has created the Cactus Connected Commerce
System (CCS), a set of products and technologies which form the core of the Cactus Solutions.
Each of these products can be leveraged independently or combined together for more robust solutions
depending on the business requirements.
Cactus CCS leverages the extensive research and development that has gone into making the Microsoft
Windows Server System an unrivaled commercial platform. The Cactus products are a set of vertical
application level functionality designed to work in conjunction with Microsoft platforms such as BizTalk
Server and Commerce Server, to help our customers get the most out of their investment in the Microsoft
technology. The collaborative technology effort allows Microsoft to focus on the horizontal platform while
Cactus focuses on the vertical application layer.
